A modern cooking project in Chad’s Eastern refugee camps and host communities.

Access to clean cooking remains a neglected aspect of humanitarian response in displacement settings, largely due to limited capacity, lack of dedicated funding and a focus on short term needs. Despite being a fossil fuel, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is preferred to burning biomass to limit health, economic and environmental impact. This brochure outlines an intervention that has introduced LPG to households and enterprises (restaurants) by subsidizing the upfront cost for the stove and cylinder and by strengthening the distribution network with the creation of retailers in the camps.
