More than half the population in Syria is facing food insecurity amid protracted conflict, with approximately 3 million people in the grip of severe hunger conditions. A desperate situation has  been worsened as thousands of people flee into the country from war-torn Lebanon, with an estimated 280,000 people having crossed into Syria so far.
