WFP is rapidly expanding its operations to provide emergency food assistance to the most vulnerable Afghan people. With the support of the Government of Pakistan, WFP has started dispatches of wheat flour from Pakistan to Afghanistan.

In Afghanistan, WFP is rapidly ramping up humanitarian response for people facing hunger. Already 15 million people have been provided with food and nutrition assistance in 2021, including 7 million in November alone.

The Pakistan floods – which inundated a third of the country - claimed over 1,700 lives, uprooted eight million people, and destroyed homes, schools, health facilities, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.

Pakistan is the first country in Asia to pilot the CMAM Surge approach. The pilot project was initiated in 2017, in collaboration with the Sindh Department of Health and Concern Worldwide, a WFP implementing partner.
