Morris led the organization from 2002-2007. He successfully guided WFP in carrying out what was then the largest humanitarian operation in history, providing food assistance to some 26 million Iraqis in 2003-2004.  Under his leadership WFP was also one of the key responders to the Indian ocean tsunami.

On the evening of 6 January 2000, my uncle Christopher Luke took me from my mother. I was only 11 years old. My mother walked with us a little of the way until we came to the River Luku where she said goodbye. She hugged me and through her tears told me, “My son, go. You will always remain in my heart. Following years of supporting the organization and its causes, the Emmy- and four-time James Beard Award- winning chef, writer, teacher and social justice advocate will be using his voice and platform to fight for global hunger and educate the public on food waste.

The day starts early at the Grace community school in Torit in the Eastern Equatoria region of South Sudan. At 6:30 am, well before students arrive, teachers and cooks are rushing around, preparing for the day.  In the school kitchen a fire is lit to prep for lunch.

Most families in South Sudan rely on subsistence farming to survive, but a significant amount of the food produced is lost through post-harvest losses and the country relies heavily on food imports to feed its population.

Afghanistan and Myanmar will receive AUD 21 million to help WFP meet the food needs of millions of people. In Afghanistan, economic distress due to COVID-19, conflict, and drought have pushed 14 million - 1 in 3 Afghans – into acute food insecurity. In Myanmar, the political crisis, job losses and the pandemic mean 3.4 million more people will struggle to put food on the table.

Before the next Mother's Day rolls around, 17 million girls under 19 will have given birth.

The WFP-managed Pacific Humanitarian Air Service transported more than 15,000 kilograms of medical cargo on behalf of WHO from Manila, Philippines, to Nadi, Fiji.

ROME – According to the latest Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC), nearly 282 million people in 59 countries and territories experienced high levels of acute hunger in 2023 - a worldwide increase of 24 million from the previous year.
