Morris led the organization from 2002-2007. He successfully guided WFP in carrying out what was then the largest humanitarian operation in history, providing food assistance to some 26 million Iraqis in 2003-2004. Under his leadership WFP was also one of the key responders to the Indian ocean tsunami.
Asma Khan has long been a dedicated supporter of WFP and its causes. Asma advocated for WFP’s Women are Hungrier campaign, to draw attention to the central role women’s empowerment plays in ending hunger and transforming communities.

Humanitarian operations in Gaza are near collapse. Once again, nearly half of the population of Rafah, 800,000 people, are on the move, looking for food and shelter in the middle areas of the Strip and in Khan Younis.
On the evening of 6 January 2000, my uncle Christopher Luke took me from my mother. I was only 11 years old. My mother walked with us a little of the way until we came to the River Luku where she said goodbye. She hugged me and through her tears told me, “My son, go. You will always remain in my heart. We will meet again in the nearest future.”
We left her standing just near the bridge.
Following years of supporting the organization and its causes, the Emmy- and four-time James Beard Award- winning chef, writer, teacher and social justice advocate will be using his voice and platform to fight for global hunger and educate the public on food waste.

“It’s efficient, it’s useful – and we avoid getting beaten when we go looking for firewood,” says Nadifa, from Sudan’s Darfur region who now lives in a refugee camp in eastern Chad.
