Amidst the flat sandy landscape of northeast Nigeria loom the beginnings of the Mandara Mountains, a volcanic mountain range which runs 190 km along the northern border between Nigeria and Cameroon. The mountains form a natural barrier between the two countries. They also serve as a refuge for non-state armed groups who have been fighting government forces for the past decade.

The Kasai Region in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in Central Africa is home to one of the world's most devastating humanitarian crises. An outbreak of violence in the once-peaceful region has forced hundreds of thousands of women, men and children to move time and time again. A staggering 1 in 4 Congolese caught in the Kasai crisis is severely hungry.

I'm a nutritionist and I've been working for the World Food Programme (WFP) since 2009.
