"For the past five years, the European Union has been decisive in our efforts to strengthen people's resilience in a country affected by climate impact and the influx of Malian refugees.

The consignment of dates will supplement WFP’s monthly food assistance to over 50,000 pregnant and breatfeeding women, children under five years of age and  other vulnerable groups in Mtendeli, Nduta and Nyarugusu refugee camps in the Kigoma Region.

According to the latest IPC analysis, a record 4.7 million people are currently facing acute hunger (IPC 3 and above), including 1.8 million people in Emergency phase (IPC 4) and, for the first time ever in Haiti, 19,000 people are in Catastrophe phase (IPC 5).   Cité Soleil has seen a worrisome rise in food insecurity over three years.

“China and Afghanistan are good neighbours and friends. Since 2022, the Chinese government and people have donated large amounts of humanitarian supplies to Afghanistan to help the people overcome difficulties," said Wand Yu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Afghanistan.

The operation targets 1,200 households – approximately 10,000 women, men, and children – with each household receiving 2,330 Gambian Dalasis (USD 45) per month from April to June 2022.
