A land-locked country in East Africa, Uganda produces more food than it consumes. Yet, poverty still limits people’s access to nutritious food, especially in the north and east of the country.
“This is a major breakthrough. We have finally been able to help families who are stuck in Khartoum and struggling to make it through each day as food and basic supplies dwindle,” says Eddie Rowe, WFP’s Country Director in Sudan.

2022 was marked by the war in Ukraine and its impact on the heavily import-dependent MENA region. Conflict, displacement, refugees and massive food price inflation resulted in increased hunger across the region.
The contribution will explore viable pathways for WFP, governments and partners to reduce and mitigate the impact of shocks on vulnerable communities living in urban areas.
An estimated 35,000 people will benefit from the Farm-to-School Meals project, including 5,000 farming and fishing households, and 10,000 schoolchildren.
