What would happen if the guns were silenced and violence suddenly stopped?  To mark the International Day of Peace, we posed that question to WFP country directors in Ukraine, Haiti and the Democratic Republic of the Congo – three nations where unrest has deepened hunger and smashed lives and futures.  Here are their thoughts about the paybacks of peace. Almost all of those who have crossed the border since fighting broke out in Sudan in mid-April are South Sudanese and they are returning to a country already facing unprecedented humanitarian needs. A new food security assessment completed by WFP shows that 90 percent of returnee families are experiencing moderate or severe food insecurity.

The funds will allow WFP to provide lifesaving food and nutrition assistance to nearly 370,400 affected people who are Internally Displaced Persons (IDP)’s and host families, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children and rural households experiencing food insecurity.

ROME/JUBA – The United Nations World Food Programme is in a race against time to mobilize vital funds to feed millions of people in South Sudan as hunger advances on a population in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Catastrophic flooding over recent months is pushing the country and its people towards a precipice as the year ends amid intense political instability.

  GENEVA – The United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) fears about record levels of hunger in Sudan have been confirmed. Shortly after the conflict broke out in April, WFP forecast that hunger would rise to engulf more than 19 million people in the coming months.

This innovative digital solution replaces the outdated paper system, bringing the power of digital technology to optimize the PDS and enhance user experience.

WFP signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the College of Agriculture – University of Basra focusing on creating opportunities for new graduates through capacity strengthening and training sessions for youth, with an aim to improve people’s food security.

Climate risk insurance enables vulnerable people to better cope with climate shocks.

The contribution, which has been provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), comes at a critical time, with some 3.15 million people facing high levels of food insecurity in the country, according to the latest Integrated Phase Classification (IPC).
