The evaluation was conducted between September 2021 and June 2022 to assess WFP’s strategic positioning and role and the extent to which WFP made the strategic shift expected by the CSP; WFP’s contributions to strategic outcomes; efficiency and factors that explained WFP performance.

At the request of the government, a joint FAO/WFP Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission (CFSAM) visited the country from 14 November to 2 December 2022 to estimate the 2022 crop production, to forecast the country’s import requirements for 2023 and to estimate the number of food insecure people.
2022 was marked by the war in Ukraine and its impact on the heavily import-dependent MENA region. Conflict, displacement, refugees and massive food price inflation resulted in increased hunger across the region.
The updated WFP evaluation policy is introduced at a time when WFP’s strategic plan for 2022–2025 has made clear the organization’s commitment to becoming evidence-driven in delivering its results.
