WFP delivers livelihood and resilience programming to vulnerable Lebanese, Syrian refugees, and refugees of other nationalities. The aim is to sustainably improve household food security and community resilience to economic and climatic shocks and stresses through: income generation and employment creation, strengthening of food systems, natural resource management, and community asset creation.

The contribution, which has been provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), comes at a critical time, with some 3.15 million people facing high levels of food insecurity in the country, according to the latest Integrated Phase Classification (IPC).

The MoU was signed by UN Women Lebanon’s Representative, Gielan Elmessiri, and WFP Lebanon’s Representative and Country Director, Abdallah Alwardat.   This collaboration involves conducting regular research to evaluate gender equality and social inclusion aspects in assistance programmes.

On a cold and gloomy day in Veselianka village, in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, a few dozen people gather at a food distribution point where the World Food Programme (WFP) provides monthly food assistance.

With this contribution, WFP will provide nutritious, safe, and diverse meals to pre and primary school children in 115 schools from 2024 to 2028, using locally produced foods to be sourced from 8,000 smallholder farmers.

Joyce Namoe, a programme associate with the World Food Programme in Uganda, joined WFP in 1999. She is passionate about using school feeding as an incentive for parents to keep girls in school. “We’re saving a lot of girls from early marriages, forced marriages,” she says.
