Highlights South Sudan/Sudan MOU extension. WFP facilitated a meeting on 23 June between the Governments of South Sudan and Sudan on the extension of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries through the end of 2015.

•    Targeting 1.15 million people, Phase II of WFP’s operation is well underway, with over 200,000 people reached to date.  •    The WFP-led logistics operation—Remote Access Operations (RAO)—is promoting greater ground transport access for the humanitarian community in the hard to reach mountainous areas of Nepal.

This assessment relies on secondary data analysis and primary data collection. Secondary data include price data collected by FEWS NET, National Early Warning Systems and Market Information Systems as well as political violence and protest data gathered by ACLED (Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project).

Highlights  With 1.9 million people assisted, Phase I of WFP’s operation is coming to an end. Phase II of the operation has now begun in some districts providing rations of rice, pulses and oil. Conditional and unconditional cash transfers have also been introduced. Four weeks into its emergency operation, WFP has begun implementing a cash transfer programme.

The main focus of this assessment was to estimate and update the food security situation in districts within the Savanna Agro-ecological Zone of the country where the operations of WFP are concentrated. Data was collected from 6,118 households across 49 districts in five regions between February and early March 2016.

The number of Burundian refugees arriving in Uganda since November 2014 reached approximately 8,800 people on 22 June 2015. The new arrivals came in in at a rate of around 92 persons per day.  The Burundians are arriving alongside other refugees fleeing instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
