Indonesian children face a triple burden of malnutrition, where the occurrence of undernutrition and overnutrition coexist with micronutrient deficiencies.

It’s more than 15 years since conflict forced Yahya Ishag Siyam to flee his home and seek refuge in the Krinding camps for internally displaced people on the outskirts of Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state in western Sudan.  The signing of a peace agreement in October 2020 brought fresh hopes that Yahya and millions of other displaced people in Darfur would soon return home

The decision was taken after negotiations stalled on an agreement to introduce controls to prevent the diversion of food away from some of the most vulnerable people in Yemen. The first stage of the suspension – effective in Sana’a city only – affects some 850,000 people.  Elsewhere in Yemen, WFP’s food assistance programmes are continuing as normal.

WFP’s response was requested by the Government of Ethiopia and includes logistical support to both the Government and humanitarian partners to deliver humanitarian assistance in Tigray, especially in rural areas. “Three million people in the region are in urgent need of food assistance,” said Steven Were Omamo, WFP Representative and Country Director in Ethiopia.

This joint project supports evidence-based land management and environmental preservation. It is implemented in partnership with the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) of the Ministry of Planning. It is generously funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

WFP has scaled up its emergency food assistance in Syria and Türkiye since the beginning of the crisis, reaching over 300,000 quake-affected people in both countries and plans to reach a total of close to 900,000 people. 

DRC’s conflict-driven hunger crisis is worsening as violence in the eastern province’s surges, forcing families to flee once again. More and more people are arriving at overcrowded camps where there is a lack of food, sanitation and shelter.

WFP is concerned about the safety of tens of thousands of people who have become displaced due to the violence in northeast Syria. Since 9 October, large numbers of people have fled the towns of Ras al-Ayn in Hasakeh and Tell Abyad in Raqqa, though some have since returned to their places of origin.
