This consignment forms part of a wider contribution of USD20 million from the United States towards WFP’s emergency operation to support Sri Lankan communities impacted by the country’s economic crisis.

Some 12.1 million people, more than 50% of the population, are currently food insecure and a further 2.9 million are at risk of sliding into hunger.

In the Sahel and West Africa, 26 million people currently do not have sufficient food during the ongoing harvest season (October-December 2021) which should mark the start of the end of the lean season, according to a just-released Cadre Harmonisé (CH) report on food security.

SDC’s support complements the cash transfers that WFP is already delivering to the most vulnerable, food insecure urban Zimbabweans with activities which build their resilience to cope with various shocks and stressors, which can devastate their food security.
