In a statement release on 21 December, Ireland’s Minister for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora, Colm Brophy T.D. said, “Wherever a disaster strikes, Ireland is ready to do our part to help save lives and restore the dignity of those who have been affected. In response to this crisis, I have approved funding of €250,000 to the UN World Food Programme.

The project, expected to benefit over 12,000 farmer households in nearly 540 villages, will support smallholder agriculture value chains in four of the country’s most vulnerable districts - Zhemgang, Tsirang, Trongsa, and Sarpang – which also hold a strong potential for commercial farming.

Drawing on a mixed methods approach the study includes case studies in Mali and Libya, representing an analysis of the migration route of the Ténéré desert crossing of the south-central Sahara. The overall analysis features the profiles of irregular migrants and the primary factors influencing their migration decisions.

The first cross-border movement took place on 16 June carrying 50 metric tons of essential food assistance from Egypt to Sudan. The assistance will help to alleviate the suffering of thousands of people who have become highly vulnerable due to the conflict. The establishment of the humanitarian corridor is led by WFP, in partnership with Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, he will discuss how food security and nutrition can be addressed through shared investments in agriculture and water management, nutrition-sensitive value chains and human capital development. A large proportion of Assam’s population depends on agriculture, making it acutely vulnerable to the impact of climate risks. The project will equip smallholder farmers in the state with innovative and climate-adaptive farming techniques and diversification and livelihood expansion strategies.
