The LoU aims to bolster the capacity to respond to emergencies and effectively foster investment in agricultural entrepreneurship.

The project, expected to benefit over 12,000 farmer households in nearly 540 villages, will support smallholder agriculture value chains in four of the country’s most vulnerable districts - Zhemgang, Tsirang, Trongsa, and Sarpang – which also hold a strong potential for commercial farming.

During the visit, he will discuss how food security and nutrition can be addressed through shared investments in agriculture and water management, nutrition-sensitive value chains and human capital development. He will meet with the country’s top food security and nutrition advocates, including the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste H.E. Jose Ramos Horta and Vice Prime Minister, H.E. Mr.

The first cross-border movement took place on 16 June carrying 50 metric tons of essential food assistance from Egypt to Sudan. The assistance will help to alleviate the suffering of thousands of people who have become highly vulnerable due to the conflict. The establishment of the humanitarian corridor is led by WFP, in partnership with Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As a child growing up in the hills of Lolupe, in northern Kenya’s Turkana region, Alice Ekusi recalls her pastoralist parents never had to worry about feeding their large family. “We lived off milk and meat,” Alice says of the family’s livestock, mainly goats and camels, remembering a past when rains were sufficient and dependable.

What is COP 26?  Conference of the Parties – the annual meeting of countries signed up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (and it takes place 31 Oct-12 Nov). In plain English?  Duh, governments! (Perhaps they thought ‘parties’ would bring in more young people.) Specifically, those signed up to the UN’s climate change objectives.

WFP is focusing efforts on mobilizing the resources it needs to provide food assistance to the 100 million people it set out to support in 2020.

WFP first partnered with dsm-firmenich (then Royal DSM) in 2007. Since then, the partnership has helped improve the diets and lives of tens of millions by contributing to the development of innovative nutrition and fortification solutions used across the world.  

Drawing on a mixed methods approach the study includes case studies in Mali and Libya, representing an analysis of the migration route of the Ténéré desert crossing of the south-central Sahara. The overall analysis features the profiles of irregular migrants and the primary factors influencing their migration decisions.

While drivers of food insecurity are interlinked, and the impact of economic shocks and natural hazards have grown in importance in recent years, 65 percent of acutely food-insecure people live in fragile or conflict-affected contexts. FAO and WFP have jointly warned that between June and October 2024, acute food insecurity is likely to deteriorate further in 18 hunger hotspots.
