The Monitoring, Review and Evaluation (MRE) unit of the WFP Country Office Nepal commissioned a Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) of the Forecast-based Anticipatory Action (FbAA) programme implemented in Kailali, Bardiya and Banke districts affected by the October 2022 floods.
The evaluation aimed to assess the implementation of the Joint Programme and generate lessons for future initiatives. It focused on relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability, and covered activities by all participating organizations and partners.
At the request of the government, a joint FAO/WFP Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission (CFSAM) visited the country from 14 November to 2 December 2022 to estimate the 2022 crop production, to forecast the country’s import requirements for 2023 and to estimate the number of food insecure people.
2022 was marked by the war in Ukraine and its impact on the heavily import-dependent MENA region. Conflict, displacement, refugees and massive food price inflation resulted in increased hunger across the region.
The updated WFP evaluation policy is introduced at a time when WFP’s strategic plan for 2022–2025 has made clear the organization’s commitment to becoming evidence-driven in delivering its results.
