In collaboration with national NGO partners, WFP is on the ground delivering immediate relief to communities hardest-hit. Some 60,000 families - 300,000 people - are receiving fortified biscuits to address urgent food needs.

The UN system, including WFP, has committed to reducing its reported greenhouse gases by 45 percent from 2010 levels by 2030. WFP needs to gradually eliminate more than 65,000 tonnes of CO2e (CO2 equivalent) from its annual emissions between now and 2030.

“This contribution from the British Government sends an important message to the international community, of the urgency to come together and support the government and crises-affected populations in Moldova,” said Douglas Mercado, Emergency Coordinator for WFP Moldova.

WFP provides Syrian refugees and refugees of other nationalities with cash-based assistance through electronic cards, allowing them to meet their basic needs by either buying food items in any of 400+ contracted shops across Lebanon or withdrawing cash from ATMs to spend on what they need.

WFP is deeply concerned about the safety of civilians caught up in the violence as military operations continue across northeastern Syria, around the towns of Ras al-Ayn in Hasakeh and Tell Abyad in Raqqa. The cyclone hit the southern African country just as the rainy season was tailing off with several rivers and water bodies already at high levels resulting in severe flooding.  This has inundated farmlands and destroyed produce – just as farmers were about to harvest the only crop of the year - compounding an already difficult year in which 3.8 million people need food assistance.

Most families crossing the border are arriving hungry, desperate and in need of immediate support. WFP continues to supply all arriving families with fortified biscuits and cash to buy food or other basic necessities.
