The funding, which was provided through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is part of KOICA’s Conflict and Fragility Programme and will help WFP support the reintegration of more than 50,000 returnees, especially women and youth, with essential food assistance and income-generation opportunities.

The programme, closely coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, was launched in 2016 to boost students’ health, learning and access to education.

This grant comes as part of Japan’s Emergency Grant Aid and brings its total contribution to WFP operations in Palestine since the onset of the Gaza crisis to US$21.3 million.  “We believe this contribution will meet people’s pressing food needs in Gaza, especially women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Contributing to SDG 5 on gender equality and the empowerment of women, and working with communities, partners and Governments, WFP adopted a gender transformative approach in its programming. These included intentionally targeted women to strengthen their resilience, nutrition and food security.
