The UNHAS Annual Review highlights achievements across UNHAS operations throughout the year in support of humanitarian responses.

According to October survey results, one out of ten households in the Philippines are food insecure. The poorest regions have been more affected by food insecurity. The three most food insecure regions (BARMM, Region VIII, and XII) are among the seven poorest regions in the Philippines.

On a rainy winter’s day, 12-year-old Issa walks to school in Hama, Syria in a pair of old sneakers and a thin cotton sweater. This is all he has to fend off the weather, but even on the coldest days, nothing can keep him home from school.    Today, Issa has already been awake since before dawn. He had to queue at a local bakery to collect fresh bread for his family.

As of June 2022, WFP has reached over 1.8 million people living in Lebanon: 1.1 million refugees and 720,000 Lebanese. WFP adapted its response in a complex, changing environment to ensure more people had safe and dignified access to assistance through multiple, fit-for-purpose modalities.

2022 was a year of extremes when it came to weather shocks. Record-breaking temperatures, floods, droughts and storms devastated many regions of the world. With the climate crisis accelerating, it is imperative that – in parallel to saving lives – we strengthen the resilience of communities and enable governments to build better risk management systems.
