“Refugee populations around the world are one of the most vulnerable,” said Eddie Rowe, WFP Zimbabwe Country Representative & Director. “At a time when Zimbabwe and Southern Africa is faced with massive humanitarian needs because of drought and economic woes, this already at-risk community is struggling even more.

WFP will use the funds in Kasai Central province to provide food for more than 2,000 children, and to train more than 4,000 pregnant women and nursing mothers on better nutrition, hygiene, breastfeeding and health habits. WFP will also provide food to the broader community during the lean or ‘hungry’ season between harvests as well as promoting good nutrition and health practices.

More than half these funds – US$2 million – help WFP provide monthly cash assistance for refugees in Lebanon. This the first ever multi-year funding WFP has received from Korea.  The funds will also go towards supporting the food needs of nearly half a million Syrians living in Jordan.

It was carried out in 2022. This mid-term evaluation was commissioned to assess progress toward programme indicator targets, ensure accountability, generate lessons learned, and inform course corrections for the remainder of the programme period, and was intended for both accountability and learning purposes.
