We often hear that Africa is a place of multiple challenges – hunger, conflicts and erratic weather driving millions of people into food and nutrition insecurity and ever deeper into poverty. We also know that Africa is a land of plenty, full of potential.

PCRIC and WFP will collaborate on initiatives in disaster risk financing that enhance Pacific Island countries’ resilience against loss and damage resulting from cyclones, floods and droughts, with a particular focus on protecting vulnerable and at-risk populations.

2022 was a year of extremes when it came to weather shocks. Record-breaking temperatures, floods, droughts and storms devastated many regions of the world. With the climate crisis accelerating, it is imperative that – in parallel to saving lives – we strengthen the resilience of communities and enable governments to build better risk management systems.

With this contribution, WFP will provide nutritious, safe, and diverse meals to pre and primary school children in 115 schools from 2024 to 2028, using locally produced foods to be sourced from 8,000 smallholder farmers.
