The World Food Programme (WFP) is stockpiling 310 metric tons of food at the Gaza border ready for dispatch to people in desperate need – as soon as humanitarian access is granted.   WFP’s supplies in Al Arish, Egypt, could feed 244,000 people for a week if unhindered access and safe passage were provided to our teams on the ground.

WFP is providing emergency food support to conflict-affected populations in Myanmar and has assisted almost one million people so far this year.

Niger is a landlocked country in the Sahel. With nearly 80 percent of its population living in rural areas, soil degradation and limited access to arable land and water are major drivers of food insecurity. About 3.2 million people are acutely food insecure.  

This contribution marks a historical milestone as it is one of the first times that Mongolia has donated funds to WFP - reaffirming their international solidarity and commitment to Zero Hunger. “This humanitarian aid is an expression of the warm sentiments of the Mongolian people dedicated to the Cuban people who are going through complex social and economic times,” said Ambassador of Mongolia

With this contribution WFP will work closely with the Government of The Gambia to distribute emergency food assistance to severely food insecure people, and provide fortified blended foods to malnourished children under 5, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

In the past year, the World Food Programme (WFP) has suffered the worst funding shortfalls in its 60-year history: we raised just US$7.5 billion of our projected costs of US$23.5 billion. This has resulted in colossal reductions in the number of people we serve.

This formative regional evaluation has two main objectives: learning and accountability. Emphasizing learning, the evaluation aims to understand high-level outcomes and extract lessons and good practices. For accountability, it identifies the results achieved from implementing the SRSP framework and pillar of the Regional Social Protection Strategy (2019) by WFP in LAC.
