Highlights Following political unrest in Burundi, thousands are fleeing to neighbouring countries. As of 15 July 13,423 Burundian refugees have been registered in DRC. The majority are in South Kivu, approximately 500 are in Katanga province, and just over 60 are in Maniema province.

During this quarter, the R4 Initiative expanded to Burkina Faso, targeting its first 700 households in Central North and East provinces. The initiative will also be piloted in Mozambique this year, with activities starting in Gaza and Tete provinces. In Senegal, over 8,000 farmers are insured and in Ethiopia, more than 26, 000 farmers registered for insurance this quarter.

Around 100,000 people (20,000 households) require food assistance out of the 270,000 affected by the current crisis. Distribution of around 1,300 mt of food started on 7 July in Kirundo, Bujumbura Mairie and Makamba provinces to assist 20,000 households affected by the current crisis.

Around 380 mt of food were distributed to about 5,500 beneficiaries in KabongaNyanza-lac (Makamba) and distributions continue in Kirundo and Bujumbura Mairie.  Around 100,000 people (20,000 households) require food assistance of the 270,000 affected by the current crisis.

Highlights WFP requires USD 123.6 million from July until December 2015 to fund its emergency operation. Unless contributions are received urgently, WFP will be forced to make further cutbacks to food assistance in Iraq. Emergency distributions continue through the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM), in collaboration with UNICEF and other partners.

In light of the swift depreciation of the Lebanese pound and the increase of pressure on redemption channels, WFP and UNHCR reintroduced dual currency disbursement for Syrian refugees benefiting from cash assistance programmes in May 2023.
