Since 2018, WFP has worked closely with national governments and partners on an integrated resilience programme in the Sahel countries including Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger.

This formative regional evaluation has two main objectives: learning and accountability. Emphasizing learning, the evaluation aims to understand high-level outcomes and extract lessons and good practices. For accountability, it identifies the results achieved from implementing the SRSP framework and pillar of the Regional Social Protection Strategy (2019) by WFP in LAC.

In 2020, WFP provided direct assistance to 115.5 million people in 84 countries, delivering food assistance and cash-based transfers to those it identified as vulnerable and food-insecure. A significant proportion of these were young women and men aged 15–24, making their transition to adulthood.

Under the initiative, WFP and partners will create community assets and develop vulnerable families’ skills to boost livelihood opportunities.

With almost 4 million people in need of emergency food assistance in Tigray, WFP needs to transport over 10,000 metric tons of food and 150,000 litres of fuel every week on behalf of the humanitarian sector. “WFP welcomes clearance from the Government of Ethiopia for this convoy’s safe passage into Tigray region,” said WFP Emergency Coordinator Tommy Thompson.
