The publication "Ensuring Sustainable Financing of School Meals in West Africa" explores the importance of Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programmes, which provide nutritious, locally-sourced meals to schoolchildren. These programmes support local economies and enhance children's education and health.

Chantal Matiko has been a driver for WFP in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 2009. Here she talks about the challenges of the job, including surviving an armed ambush. "I am from a city called Bunia in the northeastern Ituri province. I had no vocation to become a driver — there was none among my family or friends.

With this contribution, WFP will provide daily hot and nutritious meals made from Japanese rice along with fresh vegetables that will be locally procured from smallholder farmers.

The training brought together 45 participants, including youth and women from farmsteads in Stampriet, Schlip, Bernafay, and Maltahöhe, who acquired new skills in food preservation and processing.
