Every year, the World Food Programme (WFP) rehabilitates almost 200,000 hectares of land around the world – more than twice the size of New York City. Currently, at a time of unprecedented hunger, 33 percent of global soils are degraded, directly affecting half of the world’s population, particularly in rural areas.

The number of people WFP will target as part of the programme could expand to 12 million people if adequate funding allows. But dwindling resources  available for humanitarian operations means that despite near-record level needs, WFP has been forced to assist less people than originally planned.

The document provides a brief overview of the costed implementation plan for updated WFP policy on South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

In Benin, Ghana and Honduras, the project is expected to directly impact the lives of more than one million school children. The project will also promote local food production, benefiting smallholder farmers and provide school cooks with information on optimal nutrition for children.
