The World Food Programme (WFP) has long enlisted the voluntary services and support of prominent figures as Goodwill Ambassadors, Advocates and High-Level Supporters to help bring attention to global hunger.
“There is only one way to describe what I saw today: apocalyptic. Entire neighborhoods have been flattened; homes destroyed, schools and shops closed; lives torn apart. The scale of devastation here is truly incomprehensible,” said Beasley.
The Executive Director visited Antakya, which suffered significant loss of life and massive destruction.

The number of people WFP will target as part of the programme could expand to 12 million people if adequate funding allows. But dwindling resources available for humanitarian operations means that despite near-record level needs, WFP has been forced to assist less people than originally planned.
“We need to be allowed to bring this food into Gaza for immediate distribution. And not just once. We need sustained access. The situation over there is catastrophic and our stocks inside Gaza are running out.
WFP will provide supplementary feeding and nutrition services to 14,000 children under two, and pregnant women and nursing mothers for the treatment and prevention of moderate acute malnutrition.
