Several months after a devastating earthquake hit the southern part of the country, killing more than 2,000 people, destroying livelihoods and damaging countless schools and infrastructure such as roads and bridges, people from all places and backgrounds are rebuilding their lives.

Belgium’s support comes at a time when WFP is strapped for funds in the five countries.

During a three-day visit to the country, Beasley met with vulnerable families receiving WFP food assistance in Aleppo.

Japan’s contribution is helping displaced families in Iraq, as well as Urban Livelihoods resilience-building projects, supporting vulnerable people to return to work during the COVID-19 crisis. “Japan has provided over US$500 million as humanitarian assistance to people affected by the crisis in Iraq since 2014.

The Republic of Korea’s donation will contribute to WFP’s emergency response that aims to reach up to 2.1 million people with urgently needed food and nutrition assistance.

WFP will support an additional 195,000 people, aiming to reach a total of 300,000 people per month through the National Poverty Targeting Programme (NPTP) of the Ministry of Social Affairs which is developing the national social protection framework and strategy.
