Pakistan is the first country in Asia to pilot the CMAM Surge approach. The pilot project was initiated in 2017, in collaboration with the Sindh Department of Health and Concern Worldwide, a WFP implementing partner.

WFP is rapidly expanding its operations to provide emergency food assistance to the most vulnerable Afghan people. With the support of the Government of Pakistan, WFP has started dispatches of wheat flour from Pakistan to Afghanistan.

WFP will use the funds to provide both cash and food assistance to address the most pressing nutritional needs of 31,000 refugees living in 20 settlements across the country and for any potential new arrivals seeking refuge in Iran.

“I built this house with my own hands as I used to work as a builder, but it was partially destroyed during the [armed] escalation,” says Ahmad, as he recalls the hostilities in Gaza in May. ”I was shocked and didn’t know what to do with a big family like mine.” Ahmad and his wife Taghreed have four children.

Leonardo, a LGBTQ rights activist, learned he was HIV-positive when he took a test in 2018 as he was about to travel abroad. “The doctor did not say anything – she just started sorting forms. I knew then she was going to tell me I was positive – there had never been forms before. I felt like I was drowning, falling into the void.

  The emotion is visible on Audrey’s face as she hangs up the phone. She’s just spoken to her uncle – one of her only remaining family members – for the first time in years. Audrey was just 21 year old when her family were separated while fleeing armed conflict in Bria, eastern Central African Republic (CAR), in 2017. Hundreds of people were killed, including Audrey’s parents.

Three years ago, armed groups attacked Bintou’s village in northeastern Nigeria, destroying her home and killing many family members.  The 25-year-old mother was lucky. She and her four children escaped, crossing the Komadougou river into southern Niger, just a few kilometres away.
