ROME/JUBA – The United Nations World Food Programme is in a race against time to mobilize vital funds to feed millions of people in South Sudan as hunger advances on a population in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Catastrophic flooding over recent months is pushing the country and its people towards a precipice as the year ends amid intense political instability.

With only ten percent of necessary food supplies entering Gaza since the beginning of the conflict, people now face a massive food gap and widespread hunger as nearly the entire population is in desperate need of food assistance.

1 in 3 Afghans – 14 million people – are hungry today while 2 million children are malnourished. With drought, pandemic, and conflict, the food security situation will continue to worsen; and a great tide of hunger is soon arriving.
