Sadiya starts her day early by letting out her goats from her backyard barn at Bokolmayo refugee camp, a collection of makeshift houses in Ethiopia’s Somali region. Whistling cheerfully, she leads them first to a water point nearby, then farther away to find a good grazing spot amid the cracked land.

As schools re-open, school health and nutrition programmes are more important than ever because they help stop children going hungry, ensure they get nutritious food,  provide powerful incentives for parents to re-enrol children in school, and increase retention rates, especially among girls.

Dawn is breaking. A woman is alone in her outdoor kitchen, oblivious to everything but the meal she’s cooking. Though this is a seemingly typical morning routine of a mother cooking for her family, it is not.

"School meals are more than a plate on the table," said Laura Melo, WFP Country Director in Venezuela. "A plate of fresh, tasty food is an important incentive for children to attend and stay in school, where they belong.

The impact evaluation assesses the impact of introducing a Commodity Vouchers procurement model on children’s outcomes (i.e. health, nutrition, learning, and behaviours) compared with a centralized procurement model. It also assesses the impact of introducing the Commodity Vouchers procurement model on agricultural cooperatives, their members, and local markets.
