WFP BRIDGE aims to catalyse additional funding for businesses working towards ending hunger in challenging environments and who often struggle to access commercial financing mechanisms.

Thanks to a financial contribution from the European Union’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations department (ECHO), and in partnership with the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC), WFP has begun distributing cash to help affected people purchase food.

Not all superheroes wear a mask and a cloak. Many simply don a World Food Programme (WFP) vest and set out each day to reach those people most in need of our support. This humble commitment from our staff helped WFP reach 115.5 million people across 84 countries in 2020.

In 2002, WFP started the school feeding to provide nutritious school meals to children who would often come to school on an empty stomach.

The evaluation assessed the following activities: school feeding as well as capacity development and support to local production. The evaluation, which makes a number of recommendations for the future, was managed and conducted by a consultancy firm, with fieldwork taking place in January 2016. Two versions of the final evaluation report (French and Portuguese) are available.

Since then, interventions incrementally scaled up and reached almost 3 million people in over 2,750 villages. The results achieved so far are a testimony that the region can move beyond the crises and pave the way towards building truly resilient societies with stronger local food systems.
