From July to September 2022, rainfall across Indonesia was higher than the thirty-year long-term average. This was the result of the early start of the rainy season in combination with the persisting La Niña phenomenon. The phenomenon is still ongoing and forecasted to continue, despite with a weaker effect until the end of the year.

From January to March 2022, due to La Niña, rainfall across Indonesia was generally higher than the thirty-year long-term average. Most provinces experienced an increase in rainfall except for three provinces in the western part of Jawa (Banten, DKI Jakarta and Jawa Barat).

Water on tap is a pipe dream for many. Over 70 percent of the world’s food-insecure people are in areas where water availability is constrained. The rest live in areas where there may be a great deal of water but access may be limited and quality may be poor.

From April to June, due to the persisting La Niña phenomenon, rainfall across Indonesia was higher than the thirty-year long-term average. Most districts within the Sumatera, Jawa, Kalimantan, and Bali experienced an increase in rainfall. Extreme rainfall in several locations caused floods.

Established in 2011, the National Poverty Targeting Programme (NPTP) is Lebanon’s first poverty targeted social assistance programme for the poorest and most vulnerable Lebanese families. The NPTP is implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

Lebanon is experiencing one of the most severe economic crises in its modern history, with over 2 million Lebanese vulnerable and in need of assistance. The gendered impact of the crisis translates into higher unemployment rates amongst women 43 percent in December 2021 compared to 18 percent amongst men (WFP Food Security Report July 2022).

WFP has been growing its engagement and support to government to strengthening social protection systems across the region, particularly in response to food and nutrition insecurity aggravated by covariate shocks. This newsletter provides a snapshot of WFP’s social protection work throughout 2022 in Western Africa.
