Over the past year, WFP’s engineers and partners have been conducting disaster risk reduction activities for cyclone and monsoon preparedness and have steadily improved camp conditions and humanitarian access. Activities focus on improving and establishing roads, strengthening and clearing drains, reinforcing bridges in the camps, and reforestation.

By strengthening the technical capacity of the public sector in the KP province, this resilience-building project aims to enhance flood forecasting and anticipatory action. It will enable vulnerable and food-insecure rural households to access a suite of climate-resilient tools to diversify their livelihoods and achieve financial sustainability.

A signing ceremony was held today to mark the contribution, which will be used to buy canned fish, rice and fortified maize meal to further diversify nutritious meals offered in Early Childhood Care Development (ECCD) centers across the country.

The contribution will enable WFP to reach 24,500 drought affected people most at risk of malnutrition. Of the targeted population, 9,000 people in the Hardap Region and 12,000 people in Zambezi Region will receive value vouchers redeemable at selected retailers.
