The immense scale of the damage is becoming clearer, but the situation is likely to deteriorate, and the number of people affected is expected to increase as heavy rains are forecast to continue. Assessing the extent of the damage and needs remains a huge challenge.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has launched an emergency operation to provide critical food assistance to over 800,000 people in Gaza and the West Bank who are facing dire circumstances, lacking access to food, water, and essential supplies.

Despite humanitarian needs spiralling, resources available to respond are dwindling leaving aid groups with few options.

Up to 7 million people are in dire need of food assistance in Northern Ethiopia. Conflict is intensifying in Afar and Amhara regions – pushing a further 1.7 million people into a hunger crisis, in addition to 5.2 million people in Tigray.

More than half of the population are facing acute hunger and 3.2 million children are suffering from malnutrition. Humanitarian needs have tripled, and will continue to rise as the bitter winter sets in pushing communities to the limit.
