For three decades, John Mabior lived in fear of the next attack, looting or killing. His community of Malual Mok, in South Sudan’s midwestern Tonj South, had always been at war with its neighbours across the river – the Thony community .

The United Nations World Food Programme is on the ground responding to the food needs of the most vulnerable people across Lebanon whose incomes, jobs and lives have been affected by the triple shock of the blast, COVID-19, and economic crisis. WFP is also providing immediate relief following last week’s blasts.

“Practical approaches are crucial to address food security in the region,” says Menghestab Haile, WFP’s Regional Director in Southern Africa. “WFP is excited to bring together various experts to share their insights and help bring effective solutions in the fight against hunger.

The health system continues to be systematically degraded, with catastrophic consequences. As of 19 February, only 12 out of 36 hospitals with inpatient capacity are still functioning, and only partially. There have been more than 370 attacks on health care in Gaza since 7 October.  Diseases are rampant. Famine is looming. Water is at a trickle.

The results showed that 23 percent of households were food insecure, with higher levels of food insecurity among FLSEBP beneficiaries. The poverty rate increased in 2022, with a high percentage of poor households among FLSEBP beneficiaries.
