I just returned from the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Rainfall anomalies during the 2017 year and an ongoing economic crisis have negatively impacted the livelihoods of rural households in Chad, including agriculture, livestock, and nonfarm income activities. This has driven a deterioration in food and nutrition security across the majority of Chad’s Sahelian belt.

WFP is providing emergency assistance to families affected by the 22 June earthquake that hit the south-eastern provinces of Paktika and Khost and has teams on the ground assessing humanitarian needs among earthquake-hit families.

With the onset of the lean season, the consistent improvements in coping seen over the last five months came to a halt in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Overall, negative coping levels were higher in Guinea than in Liberia or Sierra Leone. In Liberia, coping levels were most severe in the South East and in Bong County.
