As a result of the combined impact of violence, insecurity, population displacement, limited access to food, health and water and sanitation services, the rise in food prices, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic socio-economic impacts, 27 localities[1] across 14 health districts of the country are currently showing alarming levels of severe acute malnutrition among children under five[2].

From July to September 2022, rainfall across Indonesia was higher than the thirty-year long-term average. This was the result of the early start of the rainy season in combination with the persisting La Niña phenomenon. The phenomenon is still ongoing and forecasted to continue, despite with a weaker effect until the end of the year.

This delivery includes essential emergency supplies, including first response household water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and dignity kits that consist of items such as collapsible water containers, buckets with lids, water purification tablets, and soap.

The improvement in food security stems from better food consumption, which could be attributed to reduced food prices and improved incomes among farming communities during the harvesting period when the mission was carried out. Despite this positive trend, food insecurity remains high in certain districts, especially Kilinochchi, Nuwara Eliya, Mannar, Batticaloa, Vavuniya, and Jaffna.

The latest September monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicates a stabilization of market prices in Q3, recording an increase of 0.1 percent since August and no movement when compared with July. Nevertheless, prices remain high relative to the same time last year; marking a 6.8 percent increase in CPI since last September.
