Tanzania is a lower-middle-income country with a population of 61 million. The country has experienced steady economic growth in recent years. However, 27 percent of the population still live below the poverty line and an additional 8 percent live in extreme poverty.

Mr. President, thank you for inviting me to brief the Security Council on the dire hunger emergency unfolding in Somalia.

Desertification – both a consequence and a major contributor to climate change – is one of the most insidious and overlooked threats to food security, nutrition, and sustainable food systems.

WFP carries out market analysis on a monthly basis to monitor the market situation in Armenia. Observing foreign currency exchange rates (namely US$ and Russian Ruble) and retail market price fluctuations, WFP assesses possible implications on the overall socio-economic situation and purchasing power of households.

The first cross-border movement took place on 16 June carrying 50 metric tons of essential food assistance from Egypt to Sudan. The new agreement, valued at US$33 million, comes under the U.S.

The Afghan people continue to grapple with the consequences of four decades of conflict, with entrenched poverty further exacerbated by an economic crisis, frequent environmental disasters and the impact of a worsening climate crisis, and gender inequality.
