Today, following 12 years of conflict, an economy crippled by runaway inflation, a currency that has collapsed to a record low and soaring food prices, 12 million people do not know where their next meal is coming from.

The protracted conflict in Ukraine and the global food crisis are exerting substantial impacts on food security and nutrition in countries across the Asia Pacific region. Millions more people have become acutely food-insecure in the past year.

According to an August 2022 Food Security Monitoring System analysis, 81 percent of Sierra Leonean households were unable to meet their basic food and nutrition needs.

In collaboration with the Government of Burkina Faso, WFP will airlift more than 3,500 metric tons of food consisting of maize meal, pulses, and vegetable oil in 14 localities under blockade in the Sahel region. This assistance is intended to meet the emergency food and nutrition needs of 178,000 women, men, and children.

WFP supports refugees with unconditional assistance for food and other essential needs through cash-based transfers, and supports Lebanese affected by the economic crisis with in-kind food assistance. As part of its commitment to support the Government to strengthen national safety nets, WFP provides cash assistance to vulnerable Lebanese through the National Poverty Targeting Programme.

This decentralized evaluation (DE) was commissioned by the WFP Turkey Country Office and covers the Socio-economic Empowerment and Sustainability (SES) programme in Türkiye from July 2020 to February 2022. The SES programme uses a dual system of theoretical (vocational) and practical (applied) training. SES Programme covers 16 provinces in Türkiye.
