A Partnerships Framework was signed in Rome today by WFP Programme Director, Humanitarian and Development Division, David Kaatrud, and UNCDF Executive Secretary Preeti Sinha. “This partnership comes at a critical time. The world is facing a global hunger crisis of unprecedented proportions in 2022.

Food fortification is one of the most cost-effective means of combating micronutrient deficiencies, which remain a major public health problem in Tajikistan, particularly for women and children. The roundtable was conducted by WFP and attended by representatives from the government, wheat flour mills and development partners.

Some 5.7 million people have been displaced internally in the DRC (the highest in Africa). Of these, some 1.5 million people were displaced in 2022 alone.

The contribution, from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), will help WFP provide cash-based assistance to around 1,150 non-refugee families living across Gaza until 2022. Under the scheme named Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance programme, each family receives a monthly credit on a magnetic card affording them the choice to spend it on the basic commodities they need the most at

This vital support will expand inter-agency storage and cargo consolidation operations at multiple locations in Egypt and facilitate transport of food and lifesaving assistance to the Palestinian people.   The WFP-led Logistics Cluster is collaborating closely with the Egyptian Red Crescent, which is responsible for receiving and storing international aid on behalf of the humanitarian

“We are extremely grateful for this generous funding from the Government of Japan to support women, men and children who have been driven from their homes by conflict,” said Eddie Rowe, WFP’s Representative and Country Director in Sudan. “Chronic funding shortages are forcing WFP to reduce food rations even for the most vulnerable such as IDPs and refugees.

This contribution will form part of the in-kind food package that WFP is distributing in this year’s lean season, when farming families typically face hunger.
