"With our Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programme, Cambodia aims to provide food while improving nutrition and education, strengthening rural development and increasing food security," says Claire Conan, WFP Country Director in Cambodia. “KOICA's support has been transformative, constructing essential school infrastructure and enhancing the capacities of programme implementors.

The contribution will enable WFP to assist over 416,000 vulnerable people who are experiencing recurring extreme climatic events, such as droughts and cyclones, in the South and Southeast of Madagascar. “The Republic of Korea reiterates its commitment to support Madagascar in is ongoing development efforts, through various cooperation projects,” said H.E.

The project will improve food security and livelihoods with a focus on climate resilience for smallholder farmers and will be implemented from this year in the districts of Chemba, Maringue and Caia in Sofala province and will benefit 36,000 smallholder farmers and their families until 2025. The funding will be used to produce Thriposha, a maize-based fortified food product, which will be provided to 1.1 million mothers and children. The grant from Korea helps ensure continuation of the Thriposha programme, which the Government of Sri Lanka has been conducting for almost 50 years to provide nutrition to undernourished children and pregnant and lactating women.

More than 200,000 refugees from Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi, mostly women and children have been living in the Kigoma region of Tanzania.  The funding, which has been provided through the Korea International  Cooperation Agency (KOICA) comes at a critical time and will help WFP improve refugees’ food security.
