Food Assistance for Assets: Improving Food Security and Building Resilience in Zimbabwe
In Zimbabwe, erratic weather cause by climate change and the economic meltdown, have pushed half the population into hunger and poverty, in Mwenezi district in the south of the country, farmers have struggled to meet their basic needs. Through Food Assistance for Assets, WFP provided emergency cash and food to address the immediate needs of the population, while villagers worked to increase their resilience to future shocks by building water storage systems and rehabilitating land for agriculture. In consultation with the local communities, it was determined what was most needed.
