Food Assistance for Assets: Improving Food Security and Building Resilience in South Sudan
In South Sudan, over half the population, nearly 6.5 million people are expected to need food assistance as the country struggles for a fragile peace process and the challenges of climate change. In areas where communities have the ability to grow their own food and become self-sufficient, WFP implements Food Assistance for Assets Programmes, providing around 118,000 households with food and cash to meet their immediate needs, while assisting them to increase food production and build their resilience to future shocks.
