The reductions come at the worst possible time for families in Yemen who are dependent on WFP’s food assistance to survive. In the last three months, inadequate food consumption – one measure of hunger tracked by WFP – has risen rapidly to affect half of all families as currency devaluation and hyper-inflation drives the economy to near collapse.
WFP, FAO, and IFAD—the three United Nations Rome-based Agencies (RBAs)—are implementing an innovative, five-year programme to promote food security and strengthen resilience against shocks and stressors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger and Somalia.

Eight start-ups will showcase innovations aimed at tackling the global food crisis to potential funders, government officials, industry leaders, and local and international partners.
The U.S. contribution comes at a highly critical time for the communities affected by the conflict in Cabo Delgado and in nearby provinces. Food assistance has nearly doubled this year.
