In Haiti, where almost half the population is already food insecure, hunger is set to rise amidst increasing inflation, high costs of food and fuel and deteriorating security, warns the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). As criminal groups block roads, WFP continues to provide assistance to vulnerable Haitians and supports the humanitarian community with vital air and sea transport.

The number of hungry people in Central America has nearly quadrupled over two years. WFP’s operations are severely hampered by intensifying conflict, the limited number of border crossings and damaged roads. In the last two months, amid continuing catastrophic hunger, WFP has had to reduce the contents of food parcels in Gaza as inflows of aid dipped and supplies dwindled.

"Even if the war ended tomorrow, the levels of malnutrition it has caused would cast a long shadow into the country's future," warns Gwenaelle Garnier, Nutrition in Emergency and preparedness and response consultant with WFP.
