The World Food Programme has been present in the DRC since 1973. While the main office is in Kinshasa, WFP also has 10 sub-offices across the country. WFP staff consists of 410 people of which 50 are internationals.
WFP commissioned this Occasional Paper from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) to examine the relationship between food security, nutrition and social protection and to identify WFP’s potential contribution.
In the Sechura desert, on Peru’s northern coast, several hours away from the main roads, hundreds of families survive hand-to-mouth. Drinking water is unavailable, and nutritious food is scarce – and expensive.

With limited aid entering through southern and central Gaza, WFP has been forced to provide families with reduced rations – where rations are possible – and prioritize providing hot meals, especially targeting more than 1 million people displaced from Rafah.

Education is everything for Francine, a mother of three from Ruhinga village in southern Rwanda. Despite the area still having a staggering 48 percent rate of stunting (impaired growth and development that children experience from poor nutrition), residents have witnessed improvements over time. This gives them hope that their children will have a brighter future.
