Highlights Because of ongoing political unrest in Burundi, thousands are fleeing into neighbouring countries. As of 20 July 13,584 Burundian refugees have been registered in DRC. The majority are in South Kivu. Approximately 500 are in Katanga province, and just over 60 are in Maniema province.  

Refugees from Burundi continue to cross the borders into neighboring countries. Since the beginning of April, more than 175,000 Burundians have arrived in the DRC, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Food stocks are stretched and WFP requires immediate contributions to meet the needs of vulnerable people in Burundi as well as new arrivals and existing refugees in the four countries.

Highlights Following political unrest in Burundi thousands are fleeing to neighbouring countries. Between 27 and 29 June a new influx of approximately 1,500 Burundian refugees fled into DRC.

An FAO/WFP Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission (CFSAM) visited the country from 11 to 22 May 2015 at the invitation of the Government of Swaziland to estimate the 2014/15 maize production and assess the food security situation.

Cash-based food assistance in Kenya’s refugee camps Between 28 August and 2 September, WFP transferred a total of 13.5 million Kenya Shillings to 33,934 households in the first round of Bamba Chakula transfers in Kakuma, 97% of the households that received SIM cards in July. Refugees began shopping immediately.
