The World Food Programme (WFP) is calling for urgent funds to respond to the growing crisis in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
More than a million people have been forced to leave their homes in eastern DRC since January, bringing to 5.5 million the total number of internally displaced people (IDP) in the region.
As Corona-Virus cases soar, Latin America has become the region most impacted by COVID-19 globally, accounting for over a quarter of the world’s cases. The health pandemic is driving hunger and food insecurity which risks fuelling conflict and political unrest and forcing vulnerable families to migrate.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, WFP has continually assessed household vulnerability to food and nutrition insecurity through monitoring surveys, while simultaneously providing technical assistance and operations support for programmes in response to the pandemic in the Asia Pacific region.
Based on these experiences and in cooperation with partners, WFP undertook a series of studies to bette
